Calling all BatangeƱos!!!

WowBatangas.com is hosting a photo contest aimed at showcasing photos that best describes our respective hometowns! The prize at stake is a brand new DSLR camera!



Here’s how to join: (Copied from WowBatangas.com website)

PHOTO ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

* the subject of your photo must be any PLACE, PRODUCT, or PERSON/s that best represents your town/city
* taken using a Digital SLR or Point-and-Shoot Camera
* must be unedited and sent to us straight from the camera in .JPG format
* must be in landscape format and not less than 1800 X 1200 pixels
* the photo and the subject must be in the town/city where the photographer currently resides or is originally from (birthplace)
* only one entry per photographer. No proxies allowed.

CONTEST RULES

A. Who can join? The contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers. The participant should be a bonafide BatangueƱo who resides in Batangas and is an active WOWBatangas.com FB Page Liker. There is no age limit.

B. How to join? Interested photographers may submit one (1) photo entry to contest@wowbatangas.com on or before April 30, 2011. In the subject field, write the town/city that you are representing and then your name (i.e. Padre Garcia – Reinier Ilagan) In the message of your email include photographer’s name, complete home address, landline no., cellphone no., a creative 1-sentence description of your photo in Filipino/English and some other details (location, date, etc.).

ELIMINATION ROUND

All the submitted entries will be posted on WOWBatangas Directory and Events FB page for two weeks, May 1-14, 2011. The three photos (per town) with the most number of likes on May 14 12nn will be considered for the next round.

FINAL ROUND

Only three (3) photographers per town will proceed to the Final Round. (34 towns X 3 photographers). The chosen photographers will be given a week (May 15 – 22, 2011) to take another photo of a place, product, or person from their town/city. Contestants must submit the photo before May 24.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

All the entries will be posted on WOWBatangas.com FB page for one month. May 25 – June 25 2011. The following are the criteria for judging:

* FB LIKES – 40%
* COMPOSITION – 30%
* TECHNICAL QUALITY – 20%
* OVERALL IMPRESSION – 10%

This is a commemorative project of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as part of the celebration of our national hero Jose Rizal's 150th birth anniversary.

Contest Mechanics

Eligibility

• Open to both amateur and professional photographers.

• Photos must have been taken on April 16, 2011, during the grand parade / dance showdown, and should not have won nor have been published in any manner of form;

• Participants may use any digital or film-based camera. Entries must be printed in full colour on any brand of photo paper in 8R size (8 inches x 10 inches)

• Manually retouched and/or painted over print outputs, and any form of major manipulation of the main image are not allowed, although. digital retouching on density, contrast adjustments, minor cropping, burning, and dodging may be tolerated. Creative effects done within the camera at the time of exposure e.g. multiple exposures, flash fill, lighting, filtration, etc. are allowed.

• Maximum of five entries per photographer – 3 taken during the dance competition, and 2 photos from the float competition . Photographs must be of different dance contingents or floats.

Submission of Entries

* Each entry should be submitted together with an Aliwan Fiesta Photo Competition entry form in duplicate (one copy for MBC, and one copy for the photographer-entrant), and a self-addressed, stamped Manila envelope. Each photograph will be given an entry number, which shall likewise be reflected on the entry form.The name of the photographer should not appear on the face of the entry.

2011 NCP Photo Contest

Rules and Regulations:

1. Who are eligible to join?
- All bonafide members of Nikon Club Philippines, its officers, committee heads and members, as well as the Board of Directors are allowed to join this contest.

2. What are the themes for each month?
- There will be a theme for each month. Since we are affiliated with FPPF, the theme for each month is aligned to the monthly themes of FPPF's Photoworld Cup 2011.

3. How can one submit his/her entries for this contest?
- A member can submit a maximum of three (3) entries every month. Entries must be emailed to photocontest@nikonclubph.orgThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 4. What is the image size/format of the entries that will be submitted?
- Images to be submitted to the Photo Contest Committee must be in .JPG format. Image size must be at least 12" on the long edge and not less than 8" on the short edge, 300 dots per inches (dpi) or pixel per inch (ppi), as we had encountered some technical quality issues in printing the entries in 8" x 12" (12" x 8") format for the club's delegation to Photoworld Cup. The entry should be taken using any model of a NIKON CAMERA only, whether its a point and shoot (Coolpix), film SLR, or a DSLR.

5. Image editing and treatment
- For this year, we will not limit ourselves to global editing only. We shall now allow the use of other post processing methods. Processing techniques such as HDR, effects (Dave Hill, Rarinda Prakarsa, etc.), textures, composites, color isolation, and the like will not be allowed. However, if the current theme stated that image editing shall only be limited to global editing, we shall follow the theme's rule for image editing.

6. I am a member of another club aside from NCP, can I still join the POTY race?
- Yes. However, if the entry/entries of that member has been chosen to be part of NCP's delegation of Photoworld Cup, it shall be treated as CLUB ENTRY, out of respect to his/her other club. It means if that entry/s will be on the top 30 or in top 10 of the monthly Photoworld Cup, points that will be earned shall be under the club and not on the photographer. Internally, we will acknowledge the photographer's name and he will earn points for the sake of the POTY race, and is part of the POTY competition.

7. How many points can one get in joining the POTY race?
- Upon submitting (may it be for POTM, Special Projects and the like or stated), a member will be awarded one (1) point for recognizing his/her participation. If ever his/her entry/entries will fall on the top ten of the contest, he/she will earn additional points. Here are as follows:

1st Place - 9 points
2nd Place - 6 points
3rd Place - 3 points
4th-10th place - 1 point

All points will be tabulated by the Photo Contest Committee. The member with the most number of points accumulated from February to December shall be the winner of POTY race 2011.

The top 10 entries will be part of the club's participation at the Photoworld Cup 2011.

8. How are the images being judged?
- Images are judged on the following:

Technical image quality - sharpness, exposure, and lighting
Composition
Impact, drama
Degree of difficulty
Adherence to the month's contest topic description

9. Stock Photos
- For this year, we will allow the use of stock photos for submission. However, the age of photo will be limited to ONE YEAR ONLY. In lieu with this, all entries that will be submitted must have its EXIF readable by Opanda IEXIF software. To download Opanda IEXIF Software, please visit http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/download.htm. If ever the software cannot read the EXIF, please do submit to me the ORIGINAL FILE of the said image. I'll shall notify the sender which of his/her entry/entries does not have EXIF.

10. Use of image
- Members entering a contest, including those with winning digital images, agree to allow Nikon Club Philippines to retain and use the images in the newsletter and on the web page or for other club-sponsored activities. Nikon Club Philippines agrees, in return, to not abuse the use of the image. Nikon Club Philippines will not market the image in any form, and will use it in promotional literature only with the advance consent of the photographer owning the image.

11. Contesting results
- If a member wishes to question the results of a contest, they must submit their complaint in writing to the Photo Contest Chairman or any club officer.

The complaint must include: complainant's name, questionable image, nature of complaint (indicating rule broken), proof behind complaint.
The Board of Directors will review the complaint, and if they find merit, they may disqualify the image.
